UPSC IES/ISS Exam 2012 -2013 details
This recruitment process by UPSC for IES and ISS vacancies is for the Grade 4 openings. The process is being conducted to fill a total of 60 vacancies in both these capacities combined. The distribution of vacancies for these two posts is as follows:

- Number of Posts for Indian Statistical Services (ISS): 29

Eligibility Conditions for UPSC IES/ISS Exam 2012- 2013
Eligibility Criteria: The applications have been invited by candidates of Indian nationality if we speak of desirable nationality.The lower and upper age limits that have been set by the authorities for the vacancies are 21 years and 30 years respectively. Age relaxations have been allowed by the government for the upper age limit for the candidates who belong to the reserved categories. SC/ST candidates can avail a relaxation of 5 years on the upper age limit of 30 years. OBC candidates may obtain an upper age limit relaxation of 3 years.
The educational qualifications which are required for both the profiles have to be strictly met by the candidates in order to be considered for the posts. The required educational qualifications are:
- Indian Economic Services (IES): Post-graduate degree in Economics or Applied Economics or Business Economics or Econometrics.
- The post of Indian Statistical Services (ISS):Post-Graduate degree in Statistics or Mathematical Statistics or Applied Statistics from any institute or university which is recognized by the government.
UPSC IES/ISS Selection Procedure
The selection process for the candidates in IES and ISS capabilities consists of various steps. Initially, a written examination is conducted, which shortlists candidates for the interview process. The further selected candidates need to go through physical fitness stages, document verification procedures and a final medical test before getting the final selection notification.For the initial written test, the candidates will have to go through 6 parts which form a total of 1000 marks. For IES test, the 6 parts are – Genl. English, Genl. Studies, Genl. Economics 1, Genl. Economics 2, Genl. Economics 3 and Indian Economics. For ISS test, the parts of the test are - Genl. English, Genl. Studies, Statistics 1, Statistics 2, Statistics 3 and Statistics 4.
How to apply for UPSC IES / ISS Exam 2012 - 2013
The application fee of Rs. 200 has to be paid by all the general and OBC male candidates through cash or net banking in SBI. All other candidates are exempted from paying the fee. The interested and eligible candidates may apply for the relevant post through the online mode on UPSC’s website - www.upsconline.nic.in and filling in the required information in the prescribed format.
